Hello from DC

Well, all the news around here has been about the recent shooting at Virginia Tech. It’s really quite sad and must really touch home for a lot of college students out there. Even though it’s been a few years since I’ve been in school, I still feel as if this tragedy happened to fellow members of my demographic, especially since I was an engineering student in college. I hope the school and community can heal together and overcome the aftermath of these shocking events.

On the flip side of the coin, I’m feeling a tinge of fear about how Asian people, including myself, will be treated after the shooting. It doesn’t help that I’m in DC this week, about two hours away from Virginia Tech. Although it won’t be hardly as bad as it is for Arab people in the US, you never know what ignorent people will do.

Anyway, so the reason I’m in DC is I’m teaching a week long class at a major ISP. I generally hate having to travel for work unless it’s to someplace interesting like Praha, Milano, or Maui, and DC is definitely not on my list of interesting places to visit. One small consolation is the Internet speed here– 11.6 mbps is not bad.
