Capsule Inn in Akihabara, Japan

The Japanese are known for their whacky inventions and whatnot, but this Capsule Inn in Akihabara is definitely not for the claustrophobic. Even I wouldn’t stay there, even if it costs 4,000 Yen per night (approximately $40 US). Well, maybe if it was the only room available in Tokyo.

I’ve stayed in a capsule inn in Tokyo before.

Incidentally isn’t the exchange rate above 100 Yen to $1.00 US (oh it’s about 120 Yen to $1.00 US) ?

See: http://www.xe.com/ucc/

So 4,000 Yen / night is

Oops I can’t simply type in the less-than sign … don’t remember the HTML for it right now either.

so 4,000 Yen is less than $40 a night.

And I’ve heard that businessmen use them after returning from certain ‘trysts’ … =P

oh right, thanks pekkle. i can’t divide. :)
wow, so how was it like staying in a capsule inn? are they popular? and what ‘trysts’ are you talking about? when you stayed in one, was it after such a ‘tryst’? :o

They’re tiny. Showers and closets on the bottom floor. Nope not a tryst, it was a result of failing to stay awake all night in Tokyo while it was storming.

Luckily on our walking tour we’d passed by a capsule hotel while wandering around, and I was lucky enough to find it again while getting soaked (with my luggage).

Heh I guess financially, it makes sense to stay in a capsule inn after a tryst. Also might help with the alibi “but Honey it was cramped and hot in the capsule, that’s why I look so bedraggled. “. :-)

That’s pretty neat you stayed in one pekkle, they sound a lot like a Hostel to me. :-)
