Blog whoring
I remember back when I first started blogging. It was the summer of 2001 and I was studying at Shi Ta university in Taiwan. Before then I used to make webpages for fun, but one hot and humid day while sitting in my little apartment in Pan Qiao I decided to start a blog, using the friendly Pitas.com service.
At first I only knew a few other people who kept blogs, and it was sort of a fun little club to be in. However, as time went on, more and more people began keeping a blog, xanga, livejournal, whatever you want to call it. I thought it was a great thing, bringing people from all walks of life into an interactive global community of sorts. Then, somehow, the popularity of blogging surpassed a critical mass. Now it’s so prevalent in the media and search engine results that it’s sickening. Even Bush and Kerry have blogs! (Though you can bet they’re nothing but rehashed campaign propaganda.) Somehow, I feel that the innocent, fun little idea that I bought into 4 years ago has been raped and disfigured beyond recognition. This is why I hate fads.
